1,608 Apply for 10 Marijuana Business Licenses in Colorado County’s Lottery

With legalization now over a year in the books, Colorado’s returns on its investment have delivered a steady flow of positive news for Denver and cities (like Boulder) that have adopted Amendment 64. Some areas in the state have been somewhat reluctant to join the pot parade, but that has started to change.

The latest county to join the fray is Adams County, located just northeast of Colorado and the state’s fifth most populated county.

On January 2, Adams County began accepting marijuana license applications for recreational dispensaries, grows, and MIPS (infused product manufacturers) with a hard deadline of last Thursday, January 22, at 4 PM. In the span of those three weeks and by the time that deadline closed, would-be ganjapreneurs were still waiting outside the Adams County Government Center hoping to drop off their applications in time.

In total, Adams County tallied a whopping 1,608 applicants who will vie for one of a measly 10 licenses the county will hand out Tuesday, Jan 27, by a lottery system.
