Illinois Lawmakers Push for Recreational Marijuana

Legislation proposed in Springfield would allow people to legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana, and allow the recreational sale of the drug.

WSIL -- With states across the nation legalizing recreational marijuana, some Illinois lawmakers want to hop on board.

Legislation proposed in Springfield would allow people to legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana, and allow the recreational sale of the drug.

It's become an important topic in the governor race, with two of the top three Democratic candidates for governor, JB Pritzker and Daniel Biss, supporting legalization.

"We should legalize recreational marijuana in small amounts, and the reason for that is that it's widely available already, let's face it," Pritzker said.

The idea is also popular with a large majority of Illinois residents.
