Add Toms River to the growing list of Ocean County towns poised to ban recreational marijuana sales.
The Township Council introduced an ordinance Jan. 23 that also bans the cultivation of cannabis within the township's borders.
"We think it creates a creative nuisance for the town and it's just not needed in Toms River," said Councilman George E. Wittmann Jr., who first proposed banning marijuana sales in the township. "I don't think we need the revenue or the potential nuisance it could create."
Wittmann said sales of marijuana for medicinal use would still be allowed.
