MONTPELIER, Vt. —The latest version of the marijuana legalization bill is moving forward in Vermont's state house, after a divided House Judiciary Committee voted 6-5 in favor. The passed bill doesn't include decriminalization of home grown marijuana, which was a selling point for some of the opponents.
Committee chair Maxine Grad voted in favor of the bill.
"It gives our law enforcement and prosecutors the tools to improve our highway safety," Grad said. "It also includes a public health, education and counter marketing campaign so we can bend the curb with our youth. The perception of risk of marijuana is declining, our youth do not see it as much of a risk anymore and we need to change that."
