Editor's Note: Other marijuana industry leaders and regulators will be visiting Rhode Island to speak during a forum scheduled for April 5 by state Attorney General Peter Kilmartin to discuss "marijuana regulation and policy that will focus on learning from states that have legalized the drug," according to an Associated Press report. Speaking at the hearing will be representatives from the industry group the Coalition for Responsible Cannabis Production, a representative from Denver and another from the Washington attorney general’s office, as well as a researcher from the Washington State Institute on Public Policy, and Massachusetts State Senator Jason Lewis, who chairs the Massachusetts Special Senate Committee on Marijuana, the AP reports.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Colorado's director of Marijuana Coordination visited the Ocean State to answer questions about the pros and cons of legalizing and regulating pot.
Andrew Freedman met with key personnel in the governor's office and took questions from lawmakers and stakeholders at the Rhode Island State House on Tuesday.
Freedman was in and out of meetings to talk about how his state is handling the legalization of weed.
A group in support of legalizing marijuana paid for Freedman's trip, but he noted his goal wasn't to encourage Rhode Island to take the leap of legalization.
"I am absolutely not here in any way to advocate for or against legalization," Freedman said. "I'm here for good government, basically."
