Effort Supporting Legalization of Marijuana Launches in New Jersey

Trenton, N.J. – Yesterday, May 9, marked the launch of the New Jersey Cannabis Industry Association (NJCIA). The NJCIA was created to promote the legalization of cannabis, as we grow toward a cannabis-based economy in the garden state.

Founded by Peter Cammarano, an experienced policy expert and the former chief of staff to Governor Richard Codey, NJCIA will be overseen by a Board of Directors and run day-to-day by an Executive Director. “In other parts of the country, we are seeing a safe and well regulated industry that has lifted the regional economy and generated significant tax revenue,” Cammarano said. “Our current cannabis laws are ineffective and as a result, New Jersey remains mired in dealing with the effects of a black-market industry. NJCIA will bring together industry leaders, medical professionals, and policy experts to build support for this long overdue effort.”

The NJCIA is a nonprofit organization that promotes sensible policy, responsible development, and growth of a legalized cannabis-based economy in New Jersey. With the increasing shift of public opinion favoring the full legalization of marijuana, New Jersey is poised to be the trailblazer for all sectors in the industry. The mission of the NJCIA is to be the advocate for modern and commonsense change to New Jersey’s outdated cannabis regulations, which will lead to the legalization, regulation and taxation of marijuana.

“In the coming months, we intend to dispel the myths and, in some cases, blatantly false information pervading this issue,” Cammarano said. “Our goal is to use real data from states that have a well-regulated cannabis industry to educate legislators and residents of the benefits and safety of legalization. We have a long way to go to ensure passage, but we’re getting closer every day.”
