MILegalize Pushes for 2018 Marijuana Legalization Ballot Measure for Michigan


At his hydroponics store in Waterford Township, Lee Wilson notes the medical benefits of marijuana and says he understands the politics that made marijuana illegal in the United States.

But he sees nothing wrong with legalizing a drug the federal government classifies as a Schedule 1 substance, defined as a drug with no legal medical use and a high potential for abuse.

“Why not?” Wilson said. “I don’t understand what the problem is. Just because someone doesn’t like it doesn’t mean it should be illegal.”

The recent success of ballot proposals in other states to legalize marijuana has reenergized supporters in Michigan looking for similar results.

Last week, voters in three more states legalized the use of marijuana.
