An urgency ordinance banning the manufacture, processing and wholesale and retail distribution of cannabis was extended until Sept. 12, 2017, by the Solvang City Council on Monday night.
The council initially adopted the urgency ordinance Sept. 26 anticipating the potential voter approval of Proposition 64 in the Nov. 8 General Election, which would legalize recreational marijuana use for those age 21 and older and establish a bureau to regulate, license and tax marijuana growers and distributors.
It would also require the city to revise the Municipal Code to bring it into conformance with state law and to devise a system to regulate and tax the industry, according to City Attorney Roy Hanley.
