Beginning July 1, Massachusetts Patients Will Get Faster Access to Medical Marijuana

Under a new “initial access certification” program, new patients will be able to buy an initial 14-day supply of marijuana before their registration card comes in the mail.

Under a new “initial access certification” program that begins July 1, the Cannabis Control Commission will let new medical marijuana patients buy an initial 14-day supply of marijuana before their registration card comes in the mail.

“We got a lot of feedback from patients and from advocacy groups that they wanted to be able to access medical marijuana immediately upon receiving certification, that the process of receiving the actual physical card took awhile,” said Cannabis Control Commission Chairman Steven Hoffman.

The Boston Business Journal reported in April that some medical marijuana patients said they had to wait weeks to get their patient cards in the mail. The card is required to buy from a medical marijuana dispensary.
