Gov. Walker attended the Anchorage School District's unofficial first day of school for principals and district leaders. Walker was a guest speaker for the crowd of over 300 and also signed into law Senate Bill 104.

"It does a couple things," Gov. Walker said. "First, it creates a pilot program for four schools, two urban and two rural. It would have intensified teaching, which is a different concept in our Alaska Education Challenge."

Started in 2016, the Alaska Education Challenge was started when the State Board of Education and Early Development established five strategic priorities aimed at improving public education for all students in Alaska.
