The rollout Saturday of the state's application portal for medical marijuana licenses went smoothly, with some residents noting they had been approved for their licenses earlier than expected.

Nearly 1,370 accounts had been registered and 366 patient applications and 205 commercial applications had been received by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority in the first hour after the portal went live.

By 5 p.m, the number of patient applications received had grown to 996, and 615 commercial applications were received.

Although applications weren't set to be reviewed until Monday, some state employees worked several hours Saturday, processing some applications to test the system.

In all, 23 people were approved for medical marijuana licenses on the first day, said Tony Sellars, spokesman for the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
