(KUTV) -- According to UtahPolicy.com, Utah lawmakers anticipate a special session on the compromise medical marijuana legislation to take place on December 3.

House Speaker Greg Hughes told the public policy website that the special session is called by Gov. Gary Herbert but he expects lawmakers to convene about the legislation that first Monday in December.

Unofficial results from Tuesday's midterm elections show Utah voters passed Proposition 2. The Utah Elections Office said, under state law, propositions approved by voters take effect five days after the state canvasses ballot totals.

The canvass occurs Nov. 26, and five days later is December 1. The Governor’s Office told 2News it “anticipates a special session (to change Prop 2 language) shortly thereafter.”
