AMHERST -- A dozen companies have expressed interest in opening recreational marijuana stores in town, according to a letter written last week by the town's marijuana liaison.
According to the Aug. 9 memo by Geoff Kravitz, Amherst's economic development director, a total of 23 marijuana-related businesses have chosen Amherst as a potential location. In addition to the stores, the figure includes seven cultivators, two product manufacturers, one testing lab and a microbusiness.
The town is "interested in engaging with potential recreational marijuana retail establishments that are responsible operators, intent on promoting diversity and social equity, offer superior products in a quality establishment, and add economic value to the town," reads the introduction to a second document, on guidelines for applying to operate a marijuana business in Amerst.
