[PRESS RELEASE] EVART, Mich. Nov. 25, 2024 – Lume Cannabis Co. is celebrating its fourth harvest at its 120-acre outdoor cannabis farm, called Lume Farms, which allows sunshine as well as Michigan water and soil to contribute to the growth of its high-quality crop.
This year’s outdoor harvest is a significant milestone in Lume’s cannabis grow operations as more than half the company’s product was cultivated outdoors, a unique achievement in the cannabis industry because so many variables are at play with outdoor cultivation, including weather.
“Innovations to our infrastructure and mechanical systems allowed us to avoid damage, including mold and rot, to help ensure we continue to provide safe, high-quality cannabis for our customers,” said Kevin Kuethe, chief cultivation officer at Lume. “With the help of sunshine and Michigan water and soil, we were able to grow more biomass than any previous year.”
Lume Farms, which is located near West Branch, allows for the growth of large crops that can produce a much higher volume than what can be grown in an indoor facility. Cannabis plants grown outdoors can grow as big as 10-feet tall and 10-feet wide, Kuethe said. The crops at Lume Farms are in a remote area in Ogemaw County and have round-the-clock security.
Lume’s farm has created an efficient process to produce low-cost biomass, which is used in a variety of cannabis products, including distillate, a type of cannabis oil. However, Lume’s crop last year ended up producing high-quality smokeable cannabis flower, which Lume featured in its well-received SunKissed product line.
October marks the start of the outdoor harvest, which can take longer than harvesting indoor crops because the plants are bigger, and all outdoor work has to be done manually because of restrictions on the use of agricultural equipment on cannabis.
Lume, which has 38 stores across Michigan, also operates two state-of-the-art indoor grow facilities in Michigan. Run by highly trained and experienced growers, these operations ensure all Lume products have consistent aromas, appearances and effects.
