TRENTON — Pot use among teenagers did not rise after states enacted laws legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes, according to a survey of more than 1 million American adolescents published Tuesday in the British medical journal, The Lancet Psychiatry.
The research included adolescents from New Jersey and 20 other states with laws that allow seriously ill and injured people use marijuana to reduce pain, muscle spasms, seizures and boost appetite.
Since the study was completed, two more states have enacted medical marijuana laws. New Jersey's law was signed in 2010 and the first legal sale to patients occurred in December 2012.
