Urban Wellness prides itself on giving its customers only the best. “From the second it's been rooted or cut to be rooted, [the plant] gets a lot of personal attention from each of our growers,” explains Urban Wellness co-founder Dave Muscarella, “and then we take that same approach with our customers. We really focus on our plants and our patients—and we think our products show that as well.”
That’s why, when Urban Wellness purchased dehumidifiers for its 10,000-square-foot indoor facility, it wanted the very best and landed on Quest. “With about 60 plants in each room, we needed the extra dehumidification for those rooms,” says Adam Valdez, co-founder and COO of Urban Wellness. “I've been in the industry since 2009, so I've been exploring and using a lot of options for dehumidification, and Quest [units] … run like horses.”
Controlling humidity in an efficient fashion is key to producing the perfect plants, Valdez explains. “We use our humidity to manipulate growth and resin production, and everything in between,” he says. At beginning stages, plants live in about 60- to 70-percent humidity. By doing that, Valdez says, “We can expect three or four times the size of a plant at week four of flower.” Then, Urban Wellness cuts the humidity to 50 percent. And at the end, the humidity is reduced even further, to as low as 35 percent. “You want to dry those rooms down as much as possible to create as much resin as possible and let those flowers close up in density,” he says. “The more humidity you have in there, the more they're going to want to breathe out.”
If you’re considering upgrading your dehumidification system, Muscarella offers some practical advice: “One of the things we really had to focus on when we were [upgrading our dehumidifiers] was making sure our power supply was actually set up to run them specifically,” he says. “So, I would encourage someone upgrading their humidification system to really focus on their amp draw, and have dedicated circuits and have everything they need to run it.”
