The Los Angeles Times Editorial Board endorsed Southern California Coalition’s Proposition M in February, which would give Los Angeles city leaders the ability to adjust medical marijuana dispensary regulations without voter approval, as well as impose local gross receipt taxes in research, transportation, sales and cultivation, and “establish civil and criminal penalties for businesses that violate the new marijuana regulations.”

Douglas Brown, the director of marketing at Contact High Communications and regular Cannabis Business Times contributor, commented on falling marijuana prices to Forbes. In states like Washington, prices have plummeted to $6 a gram from $25 a gram. Nationwide, wholesale marijuana prices dropped from $2,500 to $1,000 per pound in 2016, though prices have been rising in Q1 of 2017.

Dawn Rae Downton is a Halifax resident who suffered from nonstop nausea from Organigram’s products, which were voluntarily recalled late last year for the presence of prohibited chemicals myclobutanil, bifenazate and pyrethrins. Health Canada made an announcement after the recall that “it will begin random testing of medical cannabis produced by licensed producers.”

The National Football League’s commissioner Roger Goodell, commenting on the NFL’s substance-abuse policy at a news conference in the wake of a cannabis convention, called “Cannabis in Professional Sports,” held in Houston during Super Bowl LI. The event’s organizer told FOX 5 that the conference was held in the city during the big game to help spread awareness. Former NFL players, including Jim McMahon and Kyle Turley, are associated with medical marijuana advocacy groups. The league currently fines and suspends players who consume marijuana, even in legal states.
