Baker Technologies, a leading customer-engagement software company for dispensaries, tightened its grip on the cannabis customer relationship management (CRM) market Nov. 14 with the acquisition of Seattle-based Grassworks Media, another cannabis CRM market leader. The merger makes Baker the largest company in the space, according to a press release from the Denver-based company.

“We’re thrilled to announce our first … acquisition,” commented Baker CEO and Co-founder Joel Milton in the release. “Since our founding, we have been focused on organic growth opportunities. As the market develops and we continue to grow and scale, we started to look at other strategic growth opportunities that would help us enhance our team [and] offering, and further establish Baker as the industry leader. This acquisition does just that.”

Grassworks’ roughly 150 dispensary clients will be folded into Baker’s roster of clients that stretches across 16 states and Canada. Current Grassworks customers will not be immediately affected. Eventually, Baker will leverage Grassworks’ technology to augment its current product line. Baker provides dispensaries with data that they can use to increase revenue and retain customers.

Grassworks’ current management team will join Baker in the company’s new Seattle office where Baker’s northwest sales representatives are based.

“We’re really excited to be joining forces with the market leader,” commented Ryan Porter, CEO of Grassworks, in the release. “Baker has a fantastic product and talented leadership team, and together we’ll build the absolute best products for the cannabis industry.”

Founded in 2014, Baker has grown from three employees to more than 50 and represents more than 700 dispensaries.
