New England Treatment Access Halts Adult-Use Sales at One Massachusetts Location, Citing State Restrictions on Public Gatherings

The move is another example of how cannabis dispensaries are reacting to emerging norms amid the coronavirus outbreak.

New England Treatment Access (NETA) has hit the pause button on adult-use sales at its Brookline, Mass. location, taking this challenging time to focus solely on its medical cannabis patients.

The March 16 announcement followed Gov. Charlie Baker’s restrictions on public gatherings of more than 25 people (a move that itself followed other governors’ orders and emerging norms amid the coronavirus outbreak).

“During this health care crisis, the safety of our patients, our customers, and our employees are our top priority,” Amanda Rositano, the president of NETA, said in a public statement. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during this unprecedented time.”

According to NETA, the plan is to mandate order reservations ahead of time for medical cannabis patients, who may then stop by and pick up their medication. “Per orders from the town of Brookline, our line will be limited to no more than 10 patients at a time with a distance of 6’ between patients strictly enforced,” a letter from the dispensary stated.

NETA’s Northampton location continues to serve adult-use customers, but, again, it’s mandatory to reserve orders ahead of time. Adult-use access is subject to change abruptly, based on these rapidly evolving regulations from state government.
