Cannabis Business Times, its staff and its writers were recognized at both the national and regional levels by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) during the 2017 award period, receiving several Azbee Awards of Excellence for their work in 2016.
Most notably, CBT received a Top 10 award in the Magazine of the Year category during the national awards banquet held May 18 in St. Petersburgh, Fla.
“For us to receive this national recognition, in our first full-year of publication, is a great honor and speaks volumes about the quality of our publication, staff and contributors, and our hard work and dedication to the cannabis industry,” said CBT Co-founder and Editor Noelle Skodzinski.
The publication, which caters exclusively to the cannabis cultivation market, also won a flurry of awards at the Heartland Region awards banquet held April 27 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Contributing columnist and industry expert/consultant Kenneth Morrow, owner of Trichome Technologies, won a Regional Bronze Award for his regularly featured “Tomorrow in Cannabis” column, which covers various issues and topics facing cannabis cultivators of all scopes and sizes.
An industry veteran with over 30 years of experience in cannabis, Morrow said, “I am thankful for the recognition and for the opportunity to work with a high-quality publication such as Cannabis Business Times. Its professional approach to the industry, along with the truly useful information it provides, make it the best cannabis cultivation publication in the market today. Their dedicated staff put great effort into their work, and I am glad to be working with them.”
Associate Editor Brian MacIver also won a Regional Bronze Award for his profile on cultivator Scott Reach’s company, Rare Dankness Industries, in the July/August issue of 2016.
“Winning this award is not only a reflection of my personal efforts, but a reflection of the passion and dedication the entire staff have to the cannabis industry,” MacIver said. “I knew when I joined CBT as a full-time editor in July 2016 that I was teaming up with an outstanding staff on all fronts, and now we have the awards to prove that. I look forward to contributing to the advancement of this industry as we continue to cover issues and topics that matter most to cultivators.”
The design staff also won several awards for the presentation of the magazine. Jim Blayney, Art Director for Cannabis Business Times, took home Regional Gold and Silver Awards for his design work, while the entire GIE Media design staff received a Gold Award for the overall design of the magazine.
“Our design staff works tirelessly to make sure Cannabis Business Times is as easy and fun to read as it is useful to the industry,” Blayney said. “We have worked to create a cutting-edge design that really stands out and creates a strong brand.”
“Taking home so many awards for such a young publication is outstanding,” said Cannabis Business Times Group Publisher Jim Gilbride. “These awards are evidence our team’s hard work and dedication to the cannabis market. We’re all very proud of these accomplishments.”
