California Adds 'Fresh' Category for Cannabis Cultivation Tax

Growers must now pay $1.29 per ounce of fresh marijuana weighed within two hours of harvesting.

Marijuana growers will face an additional tax, following the Jan. 10 decision by the state Department of Tax and Fee Administration to tax the fresh cannabis plants produced by California cultivators.

Growers must now pay $1.29 per ounce of fresh marijuana weighed within two hours of harvesting. This is on top of the $9.25 per dry-weight ounce of cannabis buds and $2.75 per dry-weight of cannabis leaves.
