State of the State: The Connecticut Medical Cannabis Program

After nearly 2 years of implementation, on Sept. 21 it became officially legal to sell medical cannabis in Connecticut. Here’s an overview of the Connecticut medical cannabis program.

Dispensary Licensing

27 businesses forked over $5,000 apiece to apply for a state dispensary license. Six were approved–for dispensaries in Branford, Bridgeport, Bristol, Hartford, South Windsor and Uncasville.

Production Licensing

The state has also granted 4 MMJ production licenses from among 16 applicants for operations in the towns of Portland, Simsbury, Watertown and West Haven. Construction of new growing facilities in these towns has attracted an estimated $20 million in investment and created over 100 new jobs.
