Possible Shortages of Cannabis in California Come July 1: Here's What to Expect

Starting July 1, all cannabis sold in the state must pass tests for pesticides, mold and other contaminants.

New rules about selling marijuana may lead to a shortage of cannabis and edibles, according to weed producers and vendors. 

Starting Sunday, all cannabis sold in the state of California must pass tests for pesticides, mold and other contaminants, said Lori Glauser, COO of Evio Labs, which operates marijuana testing sites around the state.

"The vast majority (of cannabis) has not yet been tested," Glauser said. 

If it hasn't been tested, it can't be sold, she said. That means many dispensaries and delivery services may have to pull products or have thinner inventories, she said.
