For the fifth consecutive year, Cannabis Business Times has recognized licensed companies that cultivate and sell cannabis in medical and adult-use programs that have created cultures where their employees feel motivated, valued, recognized for work well done, and feel they have opportunities to grow.

The Best Cannabis Companies To Work For program is conducted annually in collaboration with third-party research company Best Companies Group (BCG), which specializes in identifying great places to work. BCG manages and organizes the program and determines the rankings.

The programs were open to applicants from cannabis cultivation and dispensary operations in North America that have at least 15 full- and/or part-time permanent employees.

Applying companies were required to complete an Employer Benefits and Policies Questionnaire, where executives reported the benefits the company offers, comprising 25% of each company’s overall score.

The most heavily weighted factor in companies’ scores is employee feedback. Companies that applied encouraged their teams to complete the Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey, in which employees anonymously shared how they feel about their companies’ communications, leadership, pay, safety and more.

Employee feedback comprises 75% of each company’s score. A minimum of 40% of a company’s employees from larger companies and 80% of companies with 15 to 24 employees had to complete the employee survey to qualify. Companies also had to have an employee engagement score of at least 80% to rank as a “Best Cannabis Company To Work For.” Those who did not rank did not meet those qualifications.
