Limited quantities of marijuana-infused gummy candy hit Ohio medical marijuana dispensary shelves late last week.

The initial price for Ohio's first legal edible is steep: $80 for 11 gummies. Each candy contains 10 mg of THC.

Similar strength gummies sell for about $25 for a pack of 10 in Illinois, which has a highly-regulated medical marijuana program similar to Ohio’s.

Prices are expected to remain high as the program ramps up. Fewer than half of the state-licensed 29 growers have marijuana flower or other products on retail dispensary store shelves.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The House’s judiciary committee did not approve or kill a bill that would allow for recreational marijuana use in Louisiana. Instead, lawmakers essentially sent it to the House’s criminal justice committee, where the concept faces opposition.

Baton Rouge Democrat Rep. Edmond Jordan’s bill would allow the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) to distribute 15 industrial marijuana growing permits. Those growing companies would have to pay a $100,000 annual permit fee, meet strict facility guidelines, and pass extensive background checks. The permitted companies would send their final product to LDAF for testing. If approved, the growers would sell their product to dispensaries in parishes where voters agreed to allow marijuana sales.

OLYMPIA – Gov. Jay Inslee recently signed a new law into effect which allows parents in Washington the ability to medicate their children with marijuana on school grounds.

The newly passed House Bill 1095 only recognizes the application of certain products containing cannabinoids, such as oils and creams, which have a THC concentration of 0.3 percent or less and specifies a small number of medical conditions which a student must have in order to receive such treatment.

“This is really talking about oils that are very low dose with THC,” explained Julie Robinson, RN, MN and school nurse for the Wenatchee School District (WSD). “But they’ve got this cannabinoid that seems to be effective in a small number of students who would have intractable seizures. TBD oils may also be used for students who have severe spasticity.”

ALBANY — After cannabis legalization fell out of the April budget talks, lawmakers are looking to further expand the state's medical marijuana program and authorize recreational use of the drug before the end of session.

New legislation more closely mirroring Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's budget proposal on the measure will be introduced in the coming days, according to Buffalo Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes, the long-time sponsor of the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.

The revamped bill will include having one regulatory body oversee medical marijuana, hemp extracts and commercial cannabis. It would also preserve the core principles of MRTA, such as "significant dedicated investment in communities most harmed by marijuana prohibition" and "addressing past criminal convictions," she said in a statement.

Cannabis investment company SOL Global Investments has agreed to acquire two California-based marijuana companies, a move that would help SOL dominate the cannabis industry in a few key U.S. markets, from cultivation to retail sale, Cheddar has learned.

When it closes this deal and other pending acquisitions, SOL plans to create and take public a new multistate cannabis operator.

“Let’s work on a multistate operator, but instead of going and trying to do the 10, 12, 14-state model, let’s pick three of the top 10 states in the U.S. and execute at a very high level in those three states,” SOL Global CEO Brady Cobb said in an exclusive interview with Cheddar.

Through its subsidiary CannCure, SOL Global signed binding agreements to acquire Humboldt County-based cultivator and processor Northern Emeralds for $120 million in shares; and One Plant, a dispensary chain that currently operates six locations in California, for $17 million in cash and stock. SOL will combine Northern Emeralds and One Plant with Michigan-based MCP Wellness and 3 Boys Farms in Florida to create a new multistate operator, upon closing the deals, that it plans to take public in Canada.
