Kentucky Cannabis Company, Bluegrass Hemp Oil Announce 'Shauna's Law,' SB 83

The new bill was filed to protect public employees of drug-free work environments and the utilization of hemp products.

LEXINGTON, KY (January 29, 2019) – PRESS RELEASE – Kentucky Cannabis Company and Bluegrass Hemp Oil announce “Shauna’s Law,” a new bill just filed to protect employees in drug-free work environments with their utilization of hemp products. The bill includes an appeals process for all public employees in drug-free work environments who receive a violation of the drug policy after being tested. If the employee is using a legal industrial hemp CBD product, can provide a purchase receipt of said product and the test result corresponds with the industrial hemp product purchased, the employer must allow the employee to complete an appeals process. This is mandatory for public employers and suggested for private employers. The bill is named in honor of Shauna Staton, an EMT in Powell County, who tested positive for a minuscule amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) metabolites after taking Bluegrass Hemp Oil’s CBD extracts and lost her job. After appealing the results, Shauna got her job back.

“We are happy to invest in the legislative process and continue to lead the hemp industry in Kentucky on this very important topic,” says Bluegrass Hemp Oil Owner Adriane Polyniak. “Thank you Sen. Perry Clark for taking the time to put this bill forward for all Kentucky hemp consumers. We appreciate your shared vision. Kentuckians can talk to their legislators to further support this bill.”

With the legalization of CBD, many people take the supplement for arthritis, pain, inflammation and a variety of other medical conditions. CBD may contain trace amounts (.3 percent or less) of THC, which could potentially show up on a drug test and is the cannabinoid most widely known for its psychoactive effects. While both CBD and THC come from cannabis plants, they are derived from different varieties that have different qualities. Marijuana comes from a type of cannabis plant with high levels of THC. CBD is extracted from a type of industrial hemp and contains little or no THC and therefore lacks the psychoactive effects.

CBD (cannabidiol) was the long-awaited solution to Colten Polyniak’s epileptic seizures. In January 2009 at the age of three, Adriane and Bill Polyniak’s son had his first tonic-clonic seizure while on the stairs with his brother, Gunner (6) and Great Dane pup, Angus. This was the beginning of Colten’s long journey with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy, trials and errors with pharmaceuticals, harsh side effects and unknowns. But with the family’s discovery of CBD’s beneficial treatment for seizures, Colten is now seizure, pharmaceutical, and side-effect free.

CBD belongs to a class of molecules called cannabinoids and is actually the predominant cannabinoid in hemp. Scientific studies have shown that CBD has significant benefits for a wide array of health concerns and boasts the greatest therapeutic potential of all the cannabinoids. CBD is known to reduce pain, reduce nausea, reduce seizures and convulsions, reduce inflammation, relieve anxiety, reduce blood sugar levels, treat autoimmune disorders, and much more.

Bluegrass Hemp Oil cultivates, processes, and produces all of their high-quality, full cannabinoid spectrum extracts. Its proprietary genetic plants are hand-groomed and grown with organic, yield-boosting practices. The combination of skilled growers and rich Kentucky soil results in a dense flower potent in cannabinoids, specifically CBD. Bluegrass Hemp Oil extracts only from the bloom, meaning the CBD comes from the richest part of the plant, not the leftovers. Through the process of hydrocarbon distillation, the cannabinoids are gently extracted to create an oleoresin base. The oleoresin is emulsified with MCT coconut oil to increase shelf stability and bring the oil within practical concentrations. Each batch is tested by an independent industry lab to verify potency and purity of the final product. The highly concentrated CBD extract is then used to make Bluegrass Hemp Oil products.
