The Trump Administration is Calling for Your Input on Marijuana Rescheduling

The federal government is preparing their position for the United Nation’s next Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

The federal government wants to hear what you have to say about the rescheduling of cannabis as they prepare their position for the United Nation’s next Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

In January, the World Health Organization officially recommended that the United Nations should reclassify cannabis and its derivatives. Under the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, marijuana was designated a Schedule I substance, meaning it was considered to have no medicinal value whatsoever, and was therefore banned by all member states.

While cannabis has retained its designation ever since, several member states including Canada, Georgia, and Uruguay have legalized the substance within their borders in the intervening years. This momentum has prompted further effort on behalf of the UN to reassess the rescheduling of cannabis.
